Cindy Azua

Counseling Intern

Cindy

Cynthia is currently in her last year in graduate studies with Lamar University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Cynthia’s previous background comes from almost twenty years in education. Before pursuing her Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree, Cynthia was a secondary level teacher in predominantly Title I schools in Central Texas and South Texas. Her passion for children, their families, and community has guided her to pursue a counseling degree to assist them on a deeper level.

Cynthia’s therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), blended with a strong emphasis on person centered values, cultural sensitivity, and empowerment. She believes that meaningful change happens when clients are both supported and challenged to examine their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in a safe and affirming environment.

In her free time, Cynthia enjoys spending time with her husband, her daughter, two stepsons, and their high-spirited dog, Bolt. She enjoys her time traveling with her family and exploring Texas and all its glory it has to offer. Cynthia believes in letting your faith in God be constant, through the storms and the sunshine. She is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
